Seasons, really?

Image
Today I want to discuss a very different topic, climate change and global warming. In school, we were taught about dividing the year into three main seasons, summer, winter and monsoon. But as a science student, I find it hard not to question their existence. The daily climate change makes me wonder whether the concept of the four-month seasons makes sense anymore. We get sudden heavy rains in the summer now or have quite a lot of humidity and warmth in the monsoon months. In the past few months, we have really started to observe the effects of global warming predominantly. We must try to create a sustainable ecosystem; otherwise, all the development in other walks of life will be for nothing. Survival and sustainability need to be prioritized.  I have immense respect for people working on sustainability, building a circular economy and trying to curb the harmful effects that global warming is bringing upon us. I feel really worried about where we are heading as far as effort...

Bhai's Day Out

Image
It has been a long and interesting weekend for me. I had 3 days of holiday: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, i.e. 7th, 8th and 9th of April. On Saturday 8 April, I went to the city with my friends. It had been a while since I last visited the city. We left the hostel via rickshaw, took the ropeway to cross the Brahmaputra and enter the city. From there, we took a bus to the state zoo and spend a lot of time in the zoo. My favourite moment in the zoo was the husband and wife lion posing as if it was their family photo. After that, we went to the city central mall for having food, where we ate Pizza at Pizza Hut. Everybody ate to their heart's content and enjoyed talking about the vibrant atmosphere at the mall. Later, we played a bowling game, in which I played pathetically and was last among the six. Anyways, who plays bowling for winning, right? Then we took a bus to the ferry ghat and crossed the river Brahmaputra via the evening ferry. We left at around 10:20 a.m. and came back at ...

Weather report:)

Hey, so today, I'll discuss the weather at IIT Guwahati. Adapting to the weather of a different city has been one of the most important things I have learned in my journey away from my hometown. This is one of the important skills to acquire if one intends to go to different places and work worldwide. Weather change from Pune to Guwahati was relatively easier to adapt to because of the similarity in the overall climate. The peculiar thing I found about Guwahati is that it's very humid. To make the weather analysis short, summer seems warmer, and winter seems colder. Before coming to Guwahati, I had heard that it rains 10 months a year in Guwahati, but considering the climate changes we have been experiencing over the past few months, this is no longer true. We get rainfall for barely 5 months, although the occasional surprising showers are quite popular. The only two instances where the weather was a bit harsh were the summer in August and the winter in January. I even have t...

Consistency

Image
The thing that I want to talk about in today's blog is consistency. I haven't been able to post for two days, and I feel really guilty about it. But the thing is, inconsistency and imperfection are what make us human. The key to living a successful and happy life is to accept that we are not totally perfect and that we are not machines. Humans have made machines for the very reason of automating mundane tasks which require consistency. But the thing that makes humans more special is their ability to innovate and not just how they can do a task consecutively for 30 days. While consistency is really important but every day is different so working around the same problem is more important than just working on the same task again and again. Successful discoveries are made by doing something different and not doing the same thing. Consistency of thought is important; consistent thinking in a particular direction is important, not just consistently doing anything with a closed mind....

I have always loved mythological movies and series. Be it Hanuman, Shivaji, Chakravarti Ashok Samrat a few years ago or Ramayan, Mahabharat, Bahubali and Game of thrones in recent times, mythological tales have always fascinated me. Character building is something that I find interesting. Even the way in which the Harry Potter series is built, each and every character having its own story and a significant part to play in the grand scheme of things, has left a mark on my mind. Recently I watched some parts of breaking bad and the Last of Us too, but didn’t find them that pleasant in the end. I guess I start losing interest in the series when the protagonist himself/herself goes bad and things don’t look to be ending on a happy note (the so called ‘French ending’, its not like the other French things that I like 😊 ). Talking about songs, I listen to several categories of music. I am attaching some of the links below(perhaps it will help in SEO too) Chamiya style -  https://youtu.be...
